6th grade - Clay projects are ready for final fire!
CONGRATULATIONS! You have finished painting the glaze on your plates! Now for the torture of waiting! I can only finish fire up to 16 plates at a time in the kiln, so the agony of waiting begins! I will be running the kiln pretty much non-stop until all projects are complete! Each class will wait only for it's own members' plates before taking them home. I will post ceramic care instructions on this blog and send home a note when the project goes home sometime this next week!

EXTRA CREDIT!!!!! Read and report...
NORMAN ROCKWELL!!!
Here is a link to the official Norman Rockwell website...
http://www.normanrockwell.com/
To earn credit, click on the link and research a little about this fantastic American artist! You should be able to tell me when he lived, what he is best known for, something he did for our country, and name one or two of your favorites of his paintings!
Good luck and have fun!

6th grade - Clay projects are drying...
Over the past few days, all of my sixth grade classes have been able to build their plates out of clay. THANK YOU to all the families who donated plastic sacks! The response was overwhelming!
If you were absent for the clay building, come in during lunch recess so you can catch up quickly!
There were so many projects that the counter top was not big enough! There are projects drying on the floor, and even in one of my map drawers!
The projects will dry over the week-end and I expect to bisque fire the lot of them this coming Monday or Tuesday. After that, we will spend a couple of days painting glaze on them before their final firing in the kiln.
4th grade - approximately 5 kids per class are finished!
Students! Don't get left behind! When the number of students finishing the project reaches the vast majority, we will be moving on! It is not fair to make most students wait while a few slowly finish.
Currently, only about 5 students per class are finished, so you still have time to work hard and finish up. Those who are finished will be able to beef up on their drawing skills while waiting.
If you are falling severely behind, make sure to come into the art room during lunch recess and/or morning/afternoon recess to catch up.

6th grade - CLAY PROJECT IS UNDERWAY!!!
We are ready to begin our clay project!!! The only thing we still need is GROCERY SACKS! Please bring a plastic grocery sack (you know, one of those everlasting WalMart or Smith's plastic sacks) to class IMMEDIATELY! We cannot do the project without a sack to keep it moist between sessions! If you have more than one, bring as many as you can to help your forgetful classmates!
Everything in this post ends with an exclamation point! That is because clay is SO EXCITING!!! SO, HURRY AND BRING A PLASTIC SACK TODAY!!!! :)

4th grade - Op art projects are drawing to a close!
The Project is now in its final phase. Most students are gluing strips on to the backing paper, but several students have already folded the accordion, so to speak, and are now gluing the entire thing onto a final backing to make it stay put!
Parents, I have requested bobby pins to use as clamps on this final stage. If you are able, would you please donate one paper of bobby pins to the art room? One paper of 60 bobby pins should cost $1.00 or less at any grocery or dollar store. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to the parents who have already donated!!!!!

4th grade- stage 3 of op art!
As a whole, the 4th grade classes have moved on to the next phase of this project. There are several students who have not finished painting yet. Those who need to finish painting can come into the art room during recess times to finish.
Today in class we will be marking the back of both paintings in preparation for slicing them into segments. Students, make sure you write your name on every single slice! I'd hate for you to lose a section that belongs somewhere in the middle!

6th grade - update
We are still working on our self portraits. Several students in each class have finished their work and we are hoping to wrap up the project by the end of the week! Work hard so we can move on to our clay project! More to come on that later...
